Johnson Goes Wild, No. 24 Tulsa Beats Hawaii 62-35

Damaris Johnson broke free for a career-high 326 total yards to set a record for NCAA career and Tulsa took advantage of six turnovers the first half to beat No. 24 Hawaii 62-35 in the Cup Hawaii on Friday night.

Golden Hurricane (10-3) grounded the nation's No. 1 passing offense most of the night and broke open the fourth with 21 points in their third consecutive win for the seventh consecutive win and third bowl.

The brief and rapid Johnson won the MVP honors, rushing for 98 yards and a touchdown and catching four passes for 101 yards and another score. He had two big plays in the decisive third quarter - a reception of 59 yards and a race of 67 yards that put Tulsa up 41-28.

He also had 109 yards in 18 kickoff returns and yards on punt returns. Greg Salas also had a record night for Hawaii (10-4). The senior had 13 receptions for 214 yards and two touchdowns and Hawaii have established single season records in receptions and receiving yards.

But it was Johnson, who ran a wildlife paradise. Junior is a 7,796 all-purpose yards record in the Western Michigan standout Brandon West 7764 yards set from 2006 to 2009. Johnson broke the record 12-yard fourth quarter run. He entered the game fourth in career list, 294 yards' so tying the mark and quickly DeAngelo Williams and CJ Spiller.

GJ Kinne had 17, 31 and 343 yards and three touchdown second half. He had just 107 yards in the first half. Tulsa entered the game ranked 119 to move the nation in defense, but used an aggressive pass rush and the linebackers had to fall back into the coverage of the Warriors, who shared the Western Athletic Conference title with Boise State and Nevada.

The Golden Hurricane forced a fumble and intercepted five passes in the first half, including two picks by Curnelius Arnick. Hawaii's six first-half turnovers led to 24 Tulsa points and gave the Hurricane a 27-14 halftime lead.
